The Costco Food Court is one of the most convenient and cheapest places with its famous hot dog and soda combo that’s been priced at $1.50 since it was first offered back in 1984. In fact, it’s been reported that 1 in every 10 customers who enter a Costco store will visit the food court.

Did Costco Increase Food Court Prices?

Costco has increased the prices of select food court items. Most notably the chicken bake menu prices went up by $1 from $2.99 to $3.99. This was an increase of 30%.

There was also a 10 cent increase on the 20 oz. fountain soda. This bumped up the price from 59 cents to 69 cents, marketing a 16.95% increase. 

Costco currently offers Pepsi products available in their soda machines. Flavors available at most locations include Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Sierra Mist, Mountain Dew, Mug Root Beer, and Tropicana Light Lemonade. 

Of course the famous hot dog and soda combo remains at $1.50, the exact same price when it was first introduced in the 1980s. The chain has taken numerous actions to keep hot dog costs low. I can understand the need for the combo’s price to stay constant because when you think of Costco, you think of the hot dog and soda deal. 

At most locations, you order food at a digital kiosk.

Costco mass produces its own hot dogs. In the past, Costco sold hot dogs produced by Hebrew National at the food court. But in 2009 the company shifted to making their own hot dogs in-house. Since 2011, the company has been making Kirkland Signature Beef Weiners from a factory located in Tracy, Calif. This move gives Costco more control over over the ingredients and costs of the product from the beginning to end of the supply chain.

Consumers have also benefited from this strategy shift. The Kirkland brand Weiner is 10% larger than the Hebrew National product. Kirkland hot dogs don’t include any by-products, corn syrup, phosphates, fillers, artificial colors or flavors either.

Costco doesn’t make a profit from hot dogs. Costco sells a lot of hot dogs more than 100 million hot dogs every year. But current CEO Craig Jelinek admitted in an interview the company doesn’t make much margin from selling hot dogs. Costco continues using this deal as a marketing tool. As long as the company doesn’t shift strategy and demand a profit margin from this product, the price is more likely to remain consistent.

The rotisserie chicken priced at just $4.99 is another ready-made product whose price should remain the same and hasn’t had a price increase since 2009. This food item is located in the meat section of Costco, not the food court. But it’s still worth noting that the price hasn’t increased for this convenient food item either. 

Did Costco Hot Dogs Increase in Price? 

As mentioned earlier, the hot-dog-soda combo still costs $1.50. The current CEO has stated publicly they are committed to maintaining the low price of this menu item. 

Did Costco Increase Pizza Prices?

Pizza menu prices have not gone up. The next time you visit Costco, you’ll continue to pay just $1.99 for a slice and $9.95 for the whole 18” pizza. You can choose from cheese or pepperoni pizza for this offer.

While Costco kept their pizza prices low there were changes to the pizza menu you should be aware of over the past 2 years. You used to be able to order a supreme pizza from Costco that’s no longer available. This pizza featured pepperoni, green peppers, black olives, onions and mushrooms. You could order a full 18″ pizza or by the slice at the food court.

In 2020, Costco discontinued the supreme pizza due to a number of factors, including the rising cost of ingredients and an effort to streamline operations.

Did Costco Increase Rotisserie Chicken Prices?

I have more good news. You can still buy a rotisserie chicken for only $4.99. Costco seems committed to keeping the price of this product low. According to reports, Costco sells more than 100 million rotisserie chickens each year. 

Similar to the hotdog and soda combo, the rotisserie chicken is a loss leader for Costco. This means that Costco sells the chicken at a price below its cost in order to attract customers to the store. This gives Costco customers one more reason to renew their annual Costco memberships each year.

So how is Costco making any money? The answer is simple, customers have to pay for the annual membership. Costco also uses its rotisserie chicken and other staples to lure customers inside its stores, literally. Of course, once customers are in the store, they’re more likely to buy other items where there’s some margin built in by purchasing groceries, electronics, or furniture. 

Are Costco membership prices going up?

Costco has not increased membership prices since 2017. The current price is $120 a year for their Executive Membership and $60 for both the Business and Gold Star Memberships. 

Historically, Costco has increased the annual dues once every 5 years. This had led many to speculate that Costco will be increasing their membership prices in the near future. It’s safe to say that Costco is going to increase their membership prices at some point, but the company hasn’t made any official announcements just yet.

Can you get food at Costco without a membership?

You’re required to have a valid Costco membership for access to dine at Costco. Prior to 2020, anyone could place an order and eat at the Costco food court without a membership as long as the food court was located outside the Costco building. 

To enforce this policy, members must slide their Costco membership card before placing an order on a kiosk before you can submit a payment. Of course, you can dine at a Costco food court if you’re accompanied by a friend or family member who is willing to use their membership card, I don’t think you would have any issues. 

Prices on pizza have held steady in 2023.

How many slices is a Costco pizza cut into?

The large 16-inch Costco pizza has 12 slices. This works out to just under 83 cents per slice. Each slice is sold for $1.99 when purchased individually so you get a better overall deal by ordering the full pizza. 

How many adults does a Costco pizza feed?

This depends on how hungry you are of course. From personal experience, a Costco Pizza can easy satisfy the hunger of 2 – 3 adults. I’ve personally downed half a cheese pizza no problem. I’m not proud to share that fact. 

Does Costco have a guest pass?

Unfortunately, Costco doesn’t have a guest pass to allow non-members shop or roam around the store. But if you have a friend or family member with a membership, you will be able to enter the store with them. Keep in mind you’ll only be able to make a purchase if you have a valid membership card.

Does Costco Food Court Deliver?

Wouldn’t it be great to order Costco food court items for delivery? Sadly, the Costco food court does not deliver at this time.

Ordering food court menu items through a third-party delivery service like Uber Eats or DoorDash isn’t an option either. I know because I’ve tried to place an order for food court myself on both of these apps. I wasn’t able to get Costco to come up as an option. Keep in mind that you can order grocery items with third-party delivery apps.

There are some creative ways that people have tried to get food court food delivered, however. One thing you could try is ordering groceries through Instacart. After receiving your Instacart shopper’s information, ask them to pick up a pizza order from the food court. The problem is, they can always no. You may be able to convince some shoppers to do this if you give them a generous tip or promise to leave a positive review. Keep in mind this will be a hit or miss approach.

Another option is to ask a friend or family member who has a Costco membership to order your food for you and then have them deliver it to you. This is a free option, but it can be inconvenient if you don’t have someone who is willing to help you out.

Finally, you can always visit Costco in person and order your food court items for pickup. This is the most convenient option, but it can be time-consuming if you don’t live close to a Costco store.

Can Costco members order Food Court items online? 

Costco members can’t order food court items online. You do have the option to call ahead and place an order in advance though. This ensures you won’t need to wait as long before making an order.

Members can order grocery items through Costco’s Same Day Delivery, however. But this only applies to Costco members in qualifying ZIP codes. 

Are there any discounts or coupons available at the Costco Food Court?

As a longtime Costco member myself, I’ve never seen discounts at the food court. As you may already know, Costco mails a guide each month to members highlighting the special offers and discounts. I’ve never seen a promotion for the Costco Food Court in the 5+ years I’ve been a member.  

Kids love Costco.

One of the ways to get even bigger discounts at Costco is to become an Executive Member. This membership level gets you a 2% rebate on all purchases with the exception of gas and food court purchases. 

Are there any menu hacks or secret items at the Costco Food Court?

Costco is known for its low prices and wide selection of items, but did you know that there are also some menu hacks that can help you save even more money or try something new? Here are a few of my favorites.

Get the freshest food at lunchtime – Want to get the freshest food? Go during lunchtime only if you have the patience to wait in line because lunchtime at Costco is crunch time and lines are long. But long lines mean that the kitchen is busy, which also means fresher food.

You can buy food court items at the checkout register – This is only allowed given that you bought other items from the store. After paying, just bring the receipt to the food court counter and get your order. You can skip long lines at the food court with this hack.

Try the Forbidden Glizzy – One of Costco’s secret menu items is called the Forbidden Glizzy. What is this exactly? It’s actually a hotdog inside a chicken bake. All you need to do is remove the hot dog from its bun and then place it inside the chicken bake to make this item. The name “forbidden glizzy” is reference to the fact that you cannot order the item off the menu at Costco. You’ll need to assemble this menu hack on your own. 

Make an improvised root beer float – You can have a root beer float in Costco by ordering nonfat frozen yogurt and root beer. Combine the two together and you have your own DIY root beer float.

Get free ice – There’s nothing like getting free items, even when it’s just ice, right? At Costco, you can get free ice by stopping by the soda machine and filling up a water bottle with ice or a cup. Keep in mind you won’t be able to go too crazy with this hack by filling up a cooler or else you could end up getting some strange looks from customers and employees alike. 

Call in advance for your pizza order – While you can’t have your Costco pizza delivered to you, you can all in advance so you just need to drive to the store and pick it up. This helps save you time on large orders and also makes it easier for staff. 

Get a free refill on your soda. When you order a soda at the Costco food court, you can get yourself a free refill. If you plan to spend a lot of time shopping in the store this is a great way to maximize your drink value by going back for seconds or thirds.
