1. Kabayan Restaurant

As one of the oldest eateries of its kind in Singapore, Kabayan Restaurant offers truly authentic Filipino food—just ask any of its many regular patrons. Like a cai png stall, the eats here are laid out in a glass case, allowing you to choose from a spread of more than 15 dishes, including the likes of Lechon and Pork Adobo. There are also set meats such as the Tapsilog ($8), which gets you a hearty portion of fried rice, fried egg, and meat.

2. Rabbit Brand Seafood Delicacies

For affordable yet delectable seafood dishes, check out Rabbit Brand Seafood Delicacies. You’ll be surprised to find set meals here that are under $10 and feature delicacies such as abalone and fish maw. Set F, for instance, which has abalone, scallop, and chicken atop a bed of moist rice, will set you back a mere $5.90+. Even the dishes above $10 are an absolute steal: Set A has Buddha Jumps Over the Wall for just $10.90+. All sets come with a free flow of Chinese tea, too.

3. LUCI’s Kitchen

LUCI’s Kitchen offers a range of Filipino dishes on its online store and physical restaurant at Lucky Plaza, but the latter has just six dishes you can order for dine-in service. Despite that, these six dishes are more than enough to give you a taste of authentic Filipino cuisine. For a dish to warm the soul, get the popular Beef Goto w/ Rice ($10), which is best described as a Filipino congee cooked with beef tripe.

4. Bakmi Town

Aside from Filipino fare, Lucky Plaza also has plenty of Indonesian eats worth checking out. If you’re in the mood for a bowl of Indo-style noodles, drop by Bakmi Town for dishes such as Bakmi Ayam Jamur ($5.80), which is a bowl of dry springy noodles, marinated chicken, and mushrooms. Be sure to complement that with some Bakso Goreng ($6 for five pieces), too—these chunky fried meatballs are bound to whet your appetite in no time.

5. Ayam Penyet Ria

With six outlets across the country, Ayam Penyet Ria has become something of a household name, and it all started here at this original Lucky Plaza outlet. Its Ayam Penyet ($8.90+) set is a perennial favourite, with its large smashed chicken thigh with crispy batter sprinkled on top. Ayam Penyet Ria isn’t just known for its chicken, however—its Bebek Bakar Sambal Matah Bali ($9.90+) set features smoky flame-grilled duck with piquant Balinese chilli.

6. Inasal Restaurant

With a name like Inasal Restaurant, it’s no surprise that the most famous dish here is the classic Filipino grilled chicken dish. Its Chicken Inasal ($11) is said to be aromatic, well-marinated, and oh-so-juicy. While you’re there, don’t leave without trying desserts such as Halo Halo ($5.50) and Leche Flan ($2.70), which is also known as the Filipino version of creme brûlée!

7. Shakey’s Pizza
One of the more popular fast food brands in the Philippines, Shakey’s Pizza is worth a shot for any pizza fan. Its Manager’s Choice (from $20), which is said to be the best pizza here, features handmade crust slathered with house-made tomato sauce. It’s then topped with ham, beef, Italian sausage, green bell peppers, and onions. Another good option is the Texas Chicken BBQ (from $21) pizza, which features a smoky barbecue sauce, BBQ-marinated chicken, and cilantro pesto.

8. Lucky Chicken Rice

Considered by many to have the best chicken rice in Orchard, Lucky Chicken Rice is an ever-reliable dining spot in Lucky Plaza. While a simple plate of Boneless Chicken Rice ($6) here is far from the cheapest around, it makes for a relatively affordable meal by Orchard Road standards, and the succulent chicken and fragrant rice make it all worth it. With the Chicken Hor Fun ($6), the rice is swapped with hor fun, allowing you to enjoy the tasty chicken with those silky flat noodles.

9. Bebek Goreng Pak Ndut
While Ayam Penyet Ria specialises in chicken, Bebek Goreng Pak Ndut is known for its excellent crispy fried duck. Try the Original Crispy Fried Duck Rice ($10.90) for starters, which features a deep-fried duck thigh topped with a generous amount of flour crumbs. If you prefer your duck grilled, you can go for the Grilled Duck Rice ($10.90) instead.

10. Jollibee

According to my Filipino colleague Lery, the Jollibee on the sixth floor of Plaza Singapura is the best in the country. I’ve not been to enough Jollibee outlets to be sure of this, but given Jollibee’s track record, you’re bound to get some wonderful fried chicken here. The Chickenjoy (from $5) set of chicken and your choice of sides will satisfy you, but if you’d like something heartier, the Jolly Spaghetti ($7.75) set comes with pasta too—in addition to juicy fried chicken, of course.
