Coffee Academics is a coffee shop that has garnered multiple awards across the globe. Growing from its roots in Hong Kong, this coffee shop has expanded in Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia, and back in 2021, it opened its first-ever shop in the Philippines, starting in Bonifacio Global City with a to-go kiosk.
There are three to-go kiosks, one each in Bonifacio Global City, Robinsons Magnolia, and SM Megamall. But for Coffee Academics Cafe, which offers a more extensive selection of appetizers, bowls of pasta, mains, and even brunch options, they opened the first one in Legazpi Village in Makati City, and now, the second branch opened Molito Lifestyle Center in Alabang, Muntinlupa City last December 29, 2022.
After much deliberation (there are just too many options!) on what coffee we wanted to try, we ended up trying the naturally-sweetened latte Okinawa (P210/hot, P220/iced) and Gula Jawa (P230/hot, P240 iced). The Okinawa blends the cappuccino in unrefined brown cane sugar from Japan, while the latter uses Indonesian palm sugar, coconut, and pandan.

It might be on a case-to-case basis but we found the two drinks taste oddly too similar. And even if it claims to be sweetened, it might not be sweet enough for the Pinoy palate. Don't be shy to ask for sugar syrup on the side, so you can gradually add it until you find that sweet spot (pun intended).

If you want something different, just to satisfy your curiosity about their award-winning coffee selection, you can choose from The Classics: as the name suggests, has all the classics from espresso, latte, and piccolo, to bulletproof. They also offer pour-over coffee that uses all kinds of coffee blends, iced and hot teas, chocolatey drinks, cocktails, or the Coffee Conette (price starts at P240), which are dark chocolate-coated cones with coffee and frothy milk.

There are quite a lot of best-selling food items on the menu, and among those, we tried the KFC 2.0 & Kimchi Fried Rice (P445) which has the juiciest and crunchiest slices of boneless chicken thigh coated in a sweet-savory garlic soy glaze, served on a bed of kimchi and ham fried rice, a sprinkle of furikake for extra umami, and a banchan of caramelized sweet potato bits. We definitely recommend ordering this for the leveled-up KFC chicken alone, the kimchi fried rice and the sweet potatoes are plus points!
Other best-selling food items on the menu are the Prawn Salad (P545), Nori Nachos & Hummus (P350), The Academics Breakfast (P595) which is a breakfast plate with honey-cured bacon, bockwurst sausage, seared mushrooms, your choice of egg, and sourdough toast, and the Espresso Butter Pancake (P360), Manila Carbonara (P445), Prawn and Aligue Pasta (P495), The Cubano (P495), and Falafel Bowl (P345).
